Note - this problem was
not introduced by patch 1.4 - I experienced this problem for sure with 1.3, and perhaps before (it never bothered me before enough to worry about, so I can't remember exactly how far back I first saw this, but it was definitely happening with 1.3).
As I recall, it did seem to always happen with a message that (based on the date) I assumed was supposed to be about Pearl Harbor being attacked. The one new thing that might have been introduced with 1.4 is the mention of you not getting any further messages with content after that. That did not happen with me before - later messages would come in just fine, even after this "empty" one had shown up. So, that part may indeed be new with 1.4, but I haven't had a chance to play around enough with 1.4 to have this happen to me after the patch yet.
