you would be likely to connect with a lone merchant steaming out of norway for the Brit coast.
If you select your navigator and choose the icon for depth under keel he will report how deep the water is, try to stay out of areas where the water is shallow, trapping yourself in 30 meter waters yields no options other than to run... and if you do that the destroyer will know exactly where you are.
next thing i would do is transfer to a VII as soon as possible.

Right now my ship and my crew rest on the bottom, 20,000 centimeters under the sea. I should have checked the depth before I dive...but I just was not thinking clearly. I panicked under the pressure...and I paid dearly for it.
