You might get away with ramming a sampan at hight TC, but it really sucks to be dropped in the middle of a taskforce. If TC doesn't cut out when visual or sonar contact is made, your patrol is going to be one frustrating (even boring) ride.

I remember at least once
I felt confident that I had givent the escorts the slip. Out of torpedoes and low on batt I decided to just slip away.
Full of confidence I set my course and knocked the TC up to 128 about 10 seconds later I was destroyed sinking out of control. I guess I hadent given them the slip after all
Not to mention those pesky air patrols.
