After deleting everything and reinstalling all the add-ons one at a time and running the game, I finally got it up and going.
One thing was a carreer with 26 patrols (which SH3 does not like and constantly crashes on me), everything worked well.
I have noticed that there was no noticible speed performance with my current hardware. It seems the display card is the main factor around which everything revolves - slow card - slow performance. Oh, well have to rip out the plastic and upgrade on that score too
