To further explain Captain Zap here:
- What happens when an explosive detonates is that you get a very, very fast burn that creates a rapidly expanding cloud of hot gas. Air can be compressed, so you need comparatively more explosive to achieve the same effect as can be had underwater, because water doesn't compress.
I didn't know it was at 120m that the standard RN depthcharge became ineffective due to water pressure. Learn something new every day.
