The gap to 2nd was actually less than 0.4 seconds. That's quite a lot, but testing times mean nothing. We have absolutely no idea what test programmes the other teams were running, or what 2008 components they had on the cars.

Traction control has only been allowed since the Spanish GP in 2001. It was last banned at the end of 1993. That didn't stop Schumacher and his Benetton team running it in 1994 though.
