If you ask me - go with DW. As you said, short of detecting user actions you have a lot more tools in the DW Toolbox (better Sonar modell and so on) compared to SC. Furthermore, with more and different playable platforms you are able to cater to a wider crowd ... not everybody sticks to subs like they are the holy grail.
They only thing in my eyes that SC has going for it at the moment is the SCU and the "ability" to play more subs then with stock SC. But if you ask me ... aside from the difference SSN/SSK and SSN/SSBN(SSGN) there is no real difference in the game (SC with SCU) except maybe differing labels ... a SSN is a SSN ... it might be not an US or Russian one but they way you use it is still the same.
Bottom line ... go with DW.
