It does help.
My last mission I sunk 4 destroyers and 8 merchants ships. I plotted my intercept course and sonar, and because I understand bearing now I know what direction they was coming from. I still use auto aim, but my biggest problem was locating and intercepting convoys. Now with that out of the way I can focus on manual aiming now. When you take the time to learn how to play this game, you see how deep and fun this simulation is. I might not know how to drive a sub, but give me a direction and speed of a ship, and I can plot a course to intercept it.
