When you get a contact mark its position on the nav map, after some time has passed add a second mark (the longer the better). Now take note of the the distance between the marks and the amount of time that has elapsed between the two sightings. Find the closest corresponding values on the nomograph (think that what it is) and draw a line connecting the two, this will in turn cross the appropriate mark on the middle line and give you the approximate speed.
