The gramaphone/radio doesn't play mp3 files. Just convert them to wav and ogg files and you can play them fine.
Just put them in the data/sound/gramaphone
EDIT/UPDATE: I accidently turned this around.
The mp3's work fine, its the wav that doesn't work.
