Not so much. I'd wager that we can all understand the motive for theft, the motive for speeding etc
How many of us can empathise with a child molester? How many of us understand what motivates them?
What do we know about
why they do what they do?

These people are
very aware of societies laws, yet they still break them and commit horrendous crimes.
Combined with the nature of the crime, that sounds like an illness to me.
