The camera is possibly not too special. There was no EXIF information embedded in the photos so I cannot tell you the model - they may have been captured on film rather than digital. The conditions in space are special, though. As somebody else noted there isn't any atmospheric garbage to fuzz up your photos. Compare landscapes from industrial New Jersey and from the Arctic Circle and you might see what I mean. Up there also you will have a perfect light source; nothing between you and the sun! The only on-camera system I can think of that could be unique is some sort of shielding from all the radiation and interference bouncing around up there.
