There are a lot of mod's out there that work with the same file so the second someone makes the changes and put's it up for download many people will lose the other mod's they wanted.
Jimimadrid made a tool that can add change line's just to the menu file and works kind of like JSGME although like I said it is specificly designed to do just the menu file changes as far as I can tell and or remember.
So you may want to ask him about getting or using that tool to make the changes to your file if you are not comfortable with it.
