Strange, it sounds like a 41 Manila bug where your boat might have been caught in a retirement glitch before being transferred to Surabaya (or another base) because you RTB at Manila?

The only reason I'm commenting is that I did some experiments just for fun to see what the minimum amount of work is necessary to satisfy the AI.
For the experiment I never radioed a status report; only completing the original objective and SH4 didn't seem to care. Once, the mission was a photo recon (only), another was to insert commando's, most were Deploy or Patrol missions where I did the grid for 48 hrs and 'freehunted'. I received awards & upgrades, a new command of a Gato class, and was never retired.
