Anti-grenade net

Rocket-propelled grenades (RPGs) are a serious threat to US military vehicles in many of the various war zones it is involved in. Some of the most advanced grenades also have shaped charges that can direct their blast to penetrate armour from up to 10 metres away.

So the US military research organisation DARPAhas funded the development of a new system that can effectively and reliably protect vehicles from RPGs.

The answer, DARPA says, is a system that detects incoming RPGs using a radar system, and then fires a metal net into the path of the grenade, catching and detonating it before it hits the vehicle. The net also has its own rocket propulsion so that it can intercept the grenade before it comes within range of the vehicle.'
