Not sure what all the excitement is about.
I first used the name "The Avon Lady" when I tried out my first ever first person shooter, Delta Force, from Nova Logic. That got me very addicted. This would have been around 1998, if I'm not mistaken.
When I first started playing Delta Force multi-player with some boring nick (don't remeber what), I realized that the player names are inserted into the kill/death messages that show up during an MP session.
So I thought about a unique name and decided that I liked the idea of messages saying something to the effect of "Carl the Crusher was shot through the head by The Avon Lady." This definitely bruised more than a few male egos. 
Soon afterwards I decided I liked it enough to register domain TheAvonLady.org. I was very suprised that Avon Corp. didn't do so already. Still waiting for that multi-grand offer to come my way from them to buy up the domain name. |
Let's not forget the cease and desist order and threats of trademark infringement. |
