The longest version has many extended scenes of the crew keeping themselves from being bored, a much longer 'night club' sequence which includes The Old Man and Thomsen discussing torpedo failures and other problems, intercut with scenes of Ullmann and Francoise (yes, she actually appears in this version) discussing
thier problems. She also appears in an extended 'leaving port' sequence. There are three separate 'air attack' ALAAAARRRRMMMM scenes, including one which may or may not be an airplane at all. There are many more extra scenes and extended scenes, but my favorite point is that the whole thing is actually narrated by Lt. Werner!
All-in-all, it's five hours well spent.
