My hopes rest on winehq.org who are working on a project to make DX10 available for Windows XP and Linux.
I would gladly pay, if required, for unofficial DX10 for XP instead of upgrading to a massive resource hog with probably a dozen more annoying features like the security center and shady monitoring/logging shiesse in it!
