I second that emotion. I've been playing stock SHIII for about two months and just recently installed GWX (after upgrading to 2GB RAM and a decent video card). Holy guacamole -- what an upgrade!
It's visually stunning, and the additional ship types and features are great. The Kiel Canal alone -- very cool. It is tougher, though. My hat's off to the team that has the time and skills and develop something like this... and the graciousness to offer it free to the community.
