Is there an ideal depth for detecting with sonar? I mean in SH4, patch 1.3, without mods, highest realism.

I already know it rarely works at surface (it can work when calm ocean). But are the other depths all equally good? To put it concretely.. are the depths of 50, 100, 300, 400 all equally good?
