March, 1942. My fourth patrol. Type VIIc, GWX, 90% realism. Four eels left in the forward tubes, 3 in the stern.
I am tracking a convoy heading E, a bit W of Rockall. Mostly small stuff, and the sea is calm, clear visibility. I pull whithin 4k m of the leadmost ship on the outermost column.
Hmmm. Funny. No escorts. Oh well, in we go.
Pulling closer, I begin to feel uneasy. I can see the ships pretty clearly now, and I'm only at 3000m. If they spot me, I'm Swiss Cheese. I better go to periscope depth. I line up a Medium Merch., and let fly with two eels. Ahead standard. Now I'm taking chances. If there is a DD nearby, he's gonna hear me. I back off to ahead 1/3.
Boom, Boom. Ahead flank. I scan the area. Still no escorts. I line up a couple more targets, fire all my eels and dive. Two more hits, make for a total of three going down.
As I am pulling away, I hear three more explosions. Wait a minute. That can't be.
I pull to periscope, reloading my stern tube. Three ships are on fire, and there are flashes to the NW. The convoy is all discombobulated.
Somebody is attacking this convoy, and still no escorts about. Knowing that Ubisoft didn't include wolf packs, I was still puzzled. So I pull away further to the S and surface. Sure enough, this is what I see!
So my friend is popping away with that deck gun, but he has done some real damage. Several ships are either on fire or listing. So I take the chance to load my external reserve, and attack submerged for a second time. After disabling a Liberty Merch. I surface and finish her off with my deck gun. This was the end result. Four for me, two for him.
After that, it was back to St. Nazaire to collect my Ritterkruez. And to buy my friend a drink or two.
Hey, kudos to you cats with GWX....the pack is back.
