Actually, the main reason the deck gun is a bad weapon against other armed ships is that they are designed to float, whereas the sub is designed to sink. One hole in the wrong place and you're not a submarine anymore.

That's good to hear - it's the same way in SH3; which is why most players do the shooting themselves, even though it's totally unrealistic. I always let my crew do the shooting.
