As for the second question, I always use the up/down controls to save time and reduce periscope exposure. Instead of waiting for the scope to go all the way down and all the way back up again, lower it just below the surface, then you only have to raise it a bit for another look. Works for me, anyway. 
And yes, running around with a couple feet of scope sticking out of the water will get you spotted. I just got bombed yesterday at periscope depth because of that! |
