The sad truth is that appreciating history does not make (much) money. To paraphrase my wife's history teacher: "If you want to understand why anything happens, follow the money".
That said, I hope the Ling will find a permanent home.
I look around the Houston, TX, area and see housing and malls go up in a matter of weeks and shake my head - how does the economy support it???
Back to WW2 related stuff, though not subs: Anyone ever visiting Houston should see the San Jacinto battlefield monument and the USS Texas battleship on exhibit there. Well worth the experience.
