Virtual memory is the Windows swap file on the hard drive. You can check it by right-clicking on the My Computer icon and selecting "properties". From there, choose the "advanced" tab, then click the settings button under "performance". This will bring up another small window, choose the "advanced" tab again and you'll see virtual memory at the bottom. It should tell you how much is being used by Windows. It should be set to allow Windows to control it by default, which should be okay. But with crashes, it's always good to check things.
