Correct 
USS Stingray (SS-161) is a fictitious U.S. Navydiesel enginesubmarine featured in the 1996 comedy film Down Periscope. The Stingray was "played" by the USS Pampanito (SS-383), a still-seaworthy World War IIBalao-class submarine that is now a memorial and museum ship in San Francisco.
The real USS Stingray SS-183 was indeed a Salmon class sub.
