During WW2, Australian POW's in Singapore created dog clubs, where they capture, kill, cook and eat dogs. After awhile cats were added to the menu due to the declining number of dogs.
After the war it was believed that they had to re introduce dogs and cats as they had to be eaten out of exisitance!
The POW who wrote about this said that dogs tasted a little like beef. They even had a ranking on how many could be feed from a dog. A small dog, like a poodle, could feed one to tow people. A large dog like a great dane, could feed 10 to 12!
