Yes, the SJ radar did use the A-Scope. The A-Scope gives range readouts, the SJ, bearings. Don't believe me?:

Yes, I know the early SJ used an A scope. The question is, did it require both the A scope and the PPI at the same time? If so why? PPI clearly provides range and bearing. So if you've got that what's the A scope for?
