The conning tower is not part of the tour because access to it via ladders is just to difficult for visitors. I bump my darn head everytime I go to the conning tower. Not to mention it is still very much a work in progress. As far a guided tours, really only the weekend is the best because two voluteers also served on her. These two can give you the real deal on diesel boats!!!! BTW, the sonar was cleaned up last weekend and now you can count the prop turns of the water taxis in the harbor

Any who can come down on Saturday before 10 am can call on me to take you to the conning tower. Being I'm a restorer I have free run of the boat. In the tower is the original WW2 attack scope and the observation scope is post WW2. Both work and I would be glad to take you in the tower!!!!! I'm there from 0700 to 1200 every Saturday.

The first pics of the aft torpedo room are great. This is my adopted room to restore and keep maintained. The brass polishing is endless. Note the "cutie" torpedo in the tube that fired the last torp of the war!!! Took months to convince the Navy to let us put this fish in the tub for display! You did not get the green cylinders in the pics...these are my next project. These are compressed air tanks that mount to the ceiling. I have 5 to mount throughout he boat. Heavy buggers too!

This week manueving get a fresh coat of the original gray paint!!!! Two weeks ago we secured 14 torpedo racks from the USS Trout. These will be installed in the coming months.

Anyone who is close and would like to volunteer to restore and preserve....come on down and be a part. We take all comers who are interested in preserving a bit of history!!!! You do not need to know electrical or engineering...just a helping hand to maintain or helping others getting things up to snuff is always welcome! Contact me via PM!!!!
