I ended up staying at the inner harbor for work yesterday. I got to the sub with 2 hours left before it closed. a guilded tour would have been SWEET but they only have them on weekends i think. I was left to just walk it slow, and alone. I took tons of pictures, i was awe struck the entire time...
The sub is in really nice shape, they are working very hard on restoring it. I was afraid to touch anything but a few people passed by me quickly and they were interacting with a lot of the devices and levers.
A lot of it was closed to the public, i was only able to get a shot of the conning tower and periscopes but couldnt get up there, there is also a ton of stuff below the main quarters deck it looks like for servicing a so on, but you cant get there either.
A few things shocked me. The thing is gigantic, on the same note, its very small, and walking through this thing, sweating my butt off for two hours made me wonder why anyone would be in the submarine service. The conditions must have tested every mans ability to the highest extent.
The torpedos were a LOT bigger than i mentally pictured them to be.
This thing is way more complicated than an airplane
