They aren't useless. That's activated carbon and it'll trap smoke and other stuff that would otherwise clog your aveoli. Sarin in aerosol form, chlorine, mustard and other caustics. It's better than nothing. A long, tight-fitting raincoat with long sleeves and elastic wrist bands can also protect you from blistering agents. If you can get ahold of some atropine and alcohol wipes, that would be another step up.
Doesn't do much for those Katyusha rockets with 40,000 ball-bearings. It's amazing that people wank about cluster bombs and anti-personnel mines, but CNN doesn't say squat about the Katyushas. I guess it's just really bad for business if all your journalists are getting shot all over the world because you reported some atrocity. |
