Well, I wasn't lucky enough so far. I always get killed by aircraft.
My longest career lasted till the end of 1941, where I was attacked by an aircraft and torn to pieces.
The really bad thing was that I was already returning to home port (less than 30 km to go).

WoW!! That close to homeport and your luck ran out. Amazing!

Luck and realism plays a big part for sure. I started a few careers in 43 and 44 and just about all of them ended after an aircraft attack. I started this career at 74% with manual targeting "off" so that does make it easier trying to shake and bake a destroyer.

My next career will be manual targeting so I assume my tonnage figures will be more realistic and not as bloated as they are now. Thus far, 23 ships total. 14 merchants and 9 warships. Survived one nasty air attack though...got lucky!

GWX definitely is not kind to drunken Kaleuns.

GoldenRivet what a game! Three hours of DC's? Holy smokes!!!

Span of career:
September 1, 1939 - October 14, 1943

Fate:
After evading nearly three hours of depth charge and hedge hog attacks the boat was damaged too seriously and the crew scuttled the U-boat in grid CG72.

Sinkings:
86 merchants and 23 warships, including the U.S.S. Prince William for a career total of 728,968 tons. U-90 also claimed one aircraft shot down.

Cheers
