AFAIK there are 4 versions of 'Das Boot':
1.
Das Boot (1981) - original cinema version, 149 min.
2.
Das Boot mini series (1985) - first TV version, approx. 300 min.
3.
Das Boot: Director' Cut (1997) - improved quality (sound, etc.), 208 min.
4.
Das Boot mini series (2004) - TV version with improved quality, 282 min.
I think only #3 and #4 are available on DVD nowadays.
And I lost my #2 version somehow!
So I bought the #4 DVD version and I'm quite happy now, though there are at least two scenes missing compared to the #2 version!
So, go for the #4 version, it rocks!!!
