It's a shame that there won't be any replacement parts anymore. It makes me sad to hear of old subs being sold for scrap or sunk. I'm just thankful for the subs we do have and can go through to learn about that piece of history.

What we do now is find out who purchased her for scrap and go ask if we can vulture the sub before the cutters get to her. Usually they say yes and we have at it.
They scrap them because it cost money to hold them in a berth. Such is life in the big city.
