Eh, no...
The range was displayed on the Range unit.
The range unit as show below has a display which read the range.

There you can find (you may have to scroll down a bit) how the SJ was operated. The bearing indicator and the Range unit gave the precise information-whereas the PPI and the Range indicator unit were used to get the correct results.
