I've only managed to 'report' a task force once so far, it was group of 6 small passenger carriers escorted by three heavy cruisers and five destroyers. I surfaced just enough to make the report and luckily wasn't spotted. A short time later COMSUBPAC radioed back saying the transports might be carrying reinforcements for nearby garrison and that I should attack them as a 'priority target'. It added a new objective for me to take out a transport -- I managed to take one out along with one of the heavy cruisers & that completed the objective.

Has anyone else ever seen anything interesting/useful come of reporting task forces? I'd be particularly interested if anyone's actually seen the 'air strike' happen, and can confirm getting credit for the kills?

I had a similar incident aboard the USS Salmon. I just passed it going to drop of supplies to the South South West of Davao . . . and then came upon her backside. The task force was moving very slowly, possibly only 4 knots . . . with the same screen you talked about. I was able to get three before diving, and getting hunted relentlessly by the DD screen . . . thankfully I had saved the game prior to making my run, otherwise I would have remained with Davy Jones.

But that was before patch 1.2 . . . so the destroyers were more aggressive back then.
