I'm currently on patrol lucky #13 out of PH. I haven't been mothballed and it is August of 1943. I also haven't taken the Sub upgrades, as I'm perfectly happy with my Gato. She may not dive as deep, but she's a tough old bird. (well, fish, actually. USS Drum. Maybe musical instrument? IDK)

This goes toward my theory that the forced retirements are caused by the Submarine upgrades. If people were just happy with their current equip.... : )
