There's a few discrepancies in the article that I'll point out:
1st: Cho didn't get the firearm via a loophole, as under Virginia Law his court-ordered attendance to an outpatient facility can and does constitute involuntary commitment to a mental institution. The judge dropped the ball on this one.
2nd: For anyone who cared to read the article, the child won't even see the firearm until he's 14.
"Mr Ludwig said Bubba's gun would likely remain at his grandfather's house until he was 14. "
With this in mind, this is obviously a political statement to embarrass the beaureaucracy that has enforced these opressive laws against firearms owners.

I'm not going to wste my time to worry about someone who bothered to jump through endless hoops to get a FOID card. I'd be more concerned for the criminal who isn't going to jump through all the hoops to get a FOID card.
