In fairness, today's Russia does not have the death penalty.
That said, the infamous Chechen warlord Salman Raduyev happened to "die of a heart attack" within a couple of weeks of beginning his life sentence in a siberian penal colony a few years ago. I'm pretty sure I know what happened in reality, though, and it's best left unmentioned
