Today march 8 1943 the U-Boat U-198 of type IXD2 was lost after a dearing convoy attack under heavy fog conditions in sector DH34 on the west coast of Africa.
After attacking and sinking a large cargo Kaleun Canovaro was forced to bring his u-boat "Das Monster" to safe depth but only at depth of 150 meters the u-boat was heavily damaged in the first depth charge attack and imploded, killing all men instantly.
Oberleutnant z S Canovaro and his brave men met their fate after 27 patrols. They sank over 620.000 ton of enemy shipping.
They served the Fatherland and they will not be forgotten.

64 years later off the coast of Africa, a special equipped diving craft of the Dutch navy found a heavily rusted piece of what appeared to have been a German U-boat radio.
Back at home, the captain wipes the sand and rust off the metal plate, and incraved on the plate he finds this reading:
"Kaleun Canovaro will return!"
