Seriously, I think that the art is just that, art, and inspiring to those who view it. Who hasn't looked at a "buy war bonds" poster and thought about what it was like surrounded by that all the time? The art is gentler, pre-photo with stylized lines (even the "neked" bits). The judge who said you'd know porn if you saw it was right ~ otherwise it's good looking people on a piece of paper.
I also think that people had more freedom and could personalize their machines to humanize them; make them more a friend like many of us view our cars. However, nowadays almost nothing is personalized, which may be why it is such a shock to see military craft painted by hand and images from the imagination of those who flew or cared for the machines.
How many people have tried to paint something recently?
Regarding pimps or pimpettes, my only question is whether those are equal careers that pay the same?
