There does seem to be an upper limit around 1000 or so yards to manually setting the range. However, you can use the stadimeter and just ignore the image in the scope. In other words, if you know what the range you want to input is just "use" the stadimeter and ignore the image, just move it up and down until the dial reads the range you are trying to input. Once you have a rough range using this method you can then manually tweak the range for higher values. Not an eligant solution, but gets the job done.
