1) Battery life (the old 1.1 version) is fully compatible with 1.2 and should be plugged right in. It's already in RFB for example.
1.2 doesn't change battery life but it does, fortunately, change the recharge time - so with the mod, it's all very good.
2) Crush depth is no longer needed. Patch 1.2 brought crush depths to a level where they more or less should be realistically.
