It's very hard to target a vessel whilst in storm conditions I tend to go to 20 metres or so and use my hydrophones to listen for screws. If you do pick a target you have to be extremely quick in fixing a solution and firing your eel.
If all else fails, sail to another area (fuel levels permitting) and hope for better weather
