I spent two years beta testing primarily patches...so I've been through the whole routine...repeatedly. You have no idea how frustrated devs get when they think they fixed a problem...only to find out that the fix "didn't take" and have to go back to square one with it. Or how frustrating it can be for beta testers to know that a patch will still have bugs we could have straightened out if the devs would have been given more money and time to work on the patch. (And I know Devs got that way too. They would cry on the shoulders of the beta team sometimes.)

What's worse is when there is a bug they know HOW to fix...but are afraid to mess with it cause it's in the hard coded portion of the code. The devs I betaed for wouldn't touch the hard coded stuff. From what they told us too many things can go very wrong once you start messing in there. And that is with code THEY created.
