Martin don't hold me to this, but I think I read on here somewhere that if you stray too far from the Binocular icon once you reach it, SH4 "resets" the counter that determines when your patrol is complete.
For instance, if you have to patrol the area for 48 hours and the counter is up to 36 hours (only 12 hours to go) and you then sail too far from the icon, it resets to 0 and you have to start again - sail back to the icon and patrol
another 48 hours. Don't remember what the distance was, maybe 50 or 100 miles.
Like I said, maybe I'm getting confused with something else? But I think that's what I read. Wouldn't hurt to draw a 50 mile radius circle around the patrol area with the compass then stay inside that circle for 48 hours. See if the mission ends after 2 days.
