I'm not a lawyer, but I just finsihed getting my Law Clerk certification. This does not allow me to give legal advise, but I could point you towards some info.
Firstly, check this link out:
http://www.ontariotenants.ca/law/law.phtml
It has some good info on what you can do as a renter etc.
Thier main page
http://www.ontariotenants.ca/ probably has what you need.
Secondly, this is the Government of Ontario's
Landlord and Tenant Board that deals with disputes between landlords and tenants.

If you were to get into a legal situation with your land lord, consult the proper advise from a lawyer and this may be the route to go to get the matter resolved outside of the traditional court. It uses a mediator to solve the dispute. It was formerly known as the
Ontario Rental Housing Tribunal Board.
Other than this basic info, a lawyer would be the route to go for any major disputes. You can go to the
Law Society of Upper Canada to get a referral for a lawyer with experience in Tenant rights.

According to your post, it sounds like the Land Lord has agents that are lawyers? Or are they paralegals? If this is the case, and no one in your association has the expertise/knowledge, I would definitely contact the Law Society for a referral. They may be able to get you in touch with a lawyer that would give you advise, show up at your next meeting etc. Nothing would equalize the meetings better than the land lord knowing you have a lawyer and are not sitting there scared because he/she does have one. Some of the lawyers would be able to point you to a legal aid organization if that is what you prefer.
Interestingly, the
Ontario Coalition against Poverty helps tenants organize associations. Get information at thier website probably.
