I thought I read a post in the SH3 forum about using higher TC levels (>128) resulted in your missing ships. Meaning that if you use TC of 512 you will move faster but won't always recieve ship tracks or sightings.
Is this still valid in SH4?

Yes, I believe it is still valid. It's best to use HIGH amounts of TC when you are in the middle of nowhere, and then start bumping it down lower when you believe you are getting closer to a hot spot. It's also going to depend on the rating of your watch crew.
