Silent hunter 3 would be the best game for you at the moment as it's the one with all the mods and patches that make it one of the best out there. After playing stock SH3 for awhile you may want to try out the GWX super mod, as it makes a good game an excellent game.
SH4 is recommended, but still has some bugs in it which are being worked out at the moment.
