Personally I find that system restore provides a false sense of security and really, in this case, could provide more angst than other alternatives, as a system restore will impact much more than just your SH3 installation (for me it's a real pain, because as a software developer, I find that all my freshly created binary files go missing
).
Maintaining a "clean and unplayed" backup copy of your SH3/GWX installation is prolly the best advice I can give.
